Harbinger

The mythical Harbingers are foretellers that may take the form of strange fauna or flora or something in-between.
They are described in different centuries in many different ways, as most foul or with a fearful appearance, or a small child like figure with red or black fur. They may have blazing eyes or rotten teeth. They are feared and shunned, alien in appearance, and they stand as silent witness, messengers announcing the approach of an impending doom.
But the idea of the Harbinger also presupposes the idea of possible awakenings and hence hope.

Here they are used metaphorically to usher in awareness about the certain consequences of environmental blindspots. They come to warn without speaking, to chastise without sermonizing, to spur the viewer to action without resorting to agitprop.

Genevieve has created abstracted figurative forms out of wire, foam, paper, fabric, found objects, wax, wool and plaster.
