Silent Intervention

My work Silent Intervention is an imaginative representation of the possible outcome of genetically modified trees designed for Industrial Tree Plantations which act as carbon sinks for our increasingly industrialized world.

I have dramatised the leafless trees, by casting them in deathly white paint to contrast with the black and white striped tumour like deformities, which appear as oozing lumps wriggling their way randomly out of the pristine ‘skin’ on each tree. The branches are waving and thrusting weirdly in protest against their ‘Frankenstein’ design.

The work is my way of nudging the observer to question ‘why’ are these trees portrayed in this way and open debate as to how we view nature and man’s intervention with our precious life-giving trees and environment.
